Showroom classes and Weights
Senior Buck—6 months of age or over, Weight 6 ½ -9 pounds. Ideal Weight 7 ½ pounds.
Senior Does—6 months of age or over, Weight 7-9 ½ pounds.Ideal Weight 8 pounds.
Junior Bucks—Under 6 months of age, not over 7 ½ pounds.Minimum weight 3 ¾ pounds.
Junior Does—Under 6 months of age, not over 8 pounds.Minimum weight 3 ¾ pounds.
Note: Juniors exceeding maximum weight limits may be shown in higher age classifications. No animal may be shown in a lower age classification than its true age.
Note: Each of the Harlequin varieties are to be judged together, in two groups—Japanese and Magpies. Judges are asked to allow the animal to move about naturally to permit observation of pattern, coloration, and frequency of color alternation.
General Type—Points 10: Head, ears and body should be well proportioned and gracefully carried. Ears are to be carried in a "V". The Width of the hindquarters should be slightly wider then the width at the shoulders. The top line should begin at the nape of the neck, gradually rising to a high point over the hindquarter, then gently slope to the tail. Bone is to be medium.
Faults—Excessive dewlap; massive or wedged shaped head; short body; short ears.
Fur—Points 10: (Flyback) To conform to the ARBA Commercial Normal Fur Standard.
Color—Points 15:
Japanese Varieties
Black—Color is to be dense black and golden orange. Eyes-brown.
Blue—Color is to be lavender blue and golden fawn. Eyes-brown or blue-gray
Chocolate—Color is o be dark chocolate and golden fawn. Eyes-brown with a ruby cast
Lilac—Color is to be dove gray, with a heavy pink tint on the surface and golden fawn. Eyes Blue-gray with a ruby cast.
Magpie Varieties
Black—Color is to be dense black and white. Eyes-brown.
Blue—Color is to be lavender blue and white. Eyes-brown or blue-gray
Chocolate—Color is o be dark chocolate and white. Eyes-brown with a ruby cast
Lilac—Color is to be dove gray, with a heavy pink tint on the surface and white. Eyes Blue-gray with a ruby cast.
Faults—Excessive brindling, molting or speckling. Poor balance of color (when marking or ground color exceeds 50%). Disqualification from Competition—White spots in the Japanese group. (Eye circles, underside of jowls, tail, and belly may be white.)
Markings
—Points60: (Black Japanese described as sample).Body and chest—Points 20: The pattern over the back may be banded, barred or a combination of both, with out preference. Clean lines are to be stressed, with alternating black and orange color. The ideal body marking will have 5-7 alterations of bands and/or bars on each side, beginning with the chest. The chest should be evenly divided with the lack chest and leg under the orange half face and the orange half chest and leg under the black half face, thereby framing the face with its alternating color. Definitions—A band is considered an unbroken circle of marking color. A bar is a semi-circle of marking color, running vertically on a side.Faults—Excessive brindling on marking or body color. Poor balance of sides due to a plain unmarked side.Disqualification for competition—Disqualify for body marking (only a single) resembling Dutch belt and saddle marking.Head and Ears—Points 20:
The head is to be divided equally, one side black, the other orange. Five points are allotted for each side of the head. One ear is to be black, the other orange (one solid color from tip to base). The black ear is to be on the orange side of the face and the orange ear is to be on the black side of the face. Five points are allotted for each ear. Faults—Short, incomplete demarcation or parting line; blaze face; ears the same color; ears which fail to alternate with head markings, head markings that fail to alternate with the ears. Disqualification from Competition—Bald and dark face, defined as absence of 2 colors of the face. (The area between the eyes, from nose to ear base.)Feet and Legs—Points 20: One leg is to be black, the other orange. One hind leg is to be black, the other orange, reversing with the forelegs. (All four legs alternating colors from left to right.) Toenails in Japanese group may be light, dark, or mismatched. Toenails in magpie group may be white, dark, 0r mismatched.Disqualification from competition—White toenail(s) in Japanese.
